Swapping wiper blades is usually a 30-second job — but the rear wiper on a 2010 Lexus RX350 is sneaky. It parks hidden under the rear spoiler, and if you grab it and pull the way you would a normal wiper, you’ll snap it. The trick isn’t the swap itself; it’s getting the arm somewhere you can actually reach it. Here’s the whole thing in under two minutes.
Step 1 — Park the wiper in the middle
The rear wiper rests under the spoiler, so first move it out where you can work:
- Press the start button twice — do not start the engine.
- Turn the rear wiper on.
- Turn it off the moment the blade reaches the middle of the glass. That stops the arm out from under the spoiler, in the open where you can get to it.
Step 2 — Remove the old blade
- With the wiper parked in the middle, pull the arm down a little — you don’t need to lift it all the way up like the front wiper, just enough room to work.
- Push the old blade down and it pops off the arm.
Step 3 — Fit the new blade
Getting the new one on is a little fiddlier than taking the old one off:
- Line the new blade up on the arm.
- Push it down until you feel it pop into place. That click is the latch seating.
- Park the wiper again (turn it back to its rest position) and you’re good to go.
Pro tip: the only thing that breaks this job is impatience — don’t pry the wiper out from under the spoiler. Use the start-button-twice trick to walk it to the middle first, and the rest is just a push-on, push-off swap.
That’s it
No tools, no spoiler removal, under two minutes — just the one trick to know. Grab the OEM wiper set linked above and you’ll have the correct rear blade on hand the next time the back glass starts streaking.
FAQ
Why can't I just pull the rear wiper off like the front one?
On the RX350 the rear wiper parks tucked under the spoiler. If you try to pull it straight off from there you'll break it. You first have to get the arm to stop in the middle of its travel where you can actually reach it.
How do I get the rear wiper to stop in the middle?
Press the start button twice (don't start the engine), turn the rear wiper on, and switch it off when the arm reaches the middle of the glass. That parks it out from under the spoiler so you can work on it.
How does the new blade go on?
Unlike the front wiper, you don't pull the arm all the way up — just enough to work. The old blade pushes down and pops off. The new one is a bit fiddlier: line it up and push it down until you feel it pop into place. That click means it's seated.
